Finca El Roblar is located in Suaza, Huila, Colombia and run by German Peña. The farm sits at an elevation of approximately 1,830 m.a.s.l. and consists of 2.5 hectares in coffee. Of those 2.5 hectares, 60% are planted with Caturra, 30% planted with Castillo and another 10% in Variedad Colombia. The coffee is fermented for 20-24 hours and then dried on raised African beds in a parabolic dryer for anywhere from 15-28 days, depending on the weather conditions. German meticulously separates his lots and delivers only the Caturra to the local cooperative as part of their "premium" program. The cup quality is a clear reflection of the efforts that German puts into producing his coffees and he has already indicated his interest in fermentation experiments to see about improving cup quality in not only his Caturra, but also the other varieties he grows at the finca.
